A half-naked nymph of the hunt is lying asleep in the open countryside after hunting. Her mouth hangs open, rather unattractively. The scene has a slightly erotic feel to it. Since the nymph is sleeping, we can admire her voluptuous curves undisturbed. The two men appearing on the scene seem to hesitate: should they spy on her furtively or retreat discretely?

Van der Lisse, an artist from The Hague, specialised in idyllic landscapes with mythological scenes. His work was extremely popular in court circles.
