Hobbema’s forest landscape is dominated by impressive tree passages in the foreground and a rickety cottage to the right. The bright background, against which the dark trees stand out, is characteristic of Hobbema’s work. This sunny vista lends great depth and liveliness to the scene. Although Hobbema restricted his palette of colours to green, brown, grey and blue, he used a great variety of these shades.
