Lokke Moerel nieuwe voorzitter raad van toezicht Mauritshuis

Lokke Moerel has been named Chair of the Supervisory Board of the Mauritshuis in The Hague as of 1 April 2018. Lokke Moerel, lawyer at global law firm Morrison & Foerster and professor of Global ICT at Tilburg University, is a highly experienced board supervisor. She was Chair of the Supervisory Board of the World Wildlife Fund until last month and is currently on the board of the Rembrandt Association.

Lokke Moerel New Chair of Mauritshuis Supervisory Board

Moerel takes over from Alex Wynaendts, CEO of Aegon. Under his chairmanship, the Mauritshuis completed its successful renovation and expansion, acquired several significant works for the collection and built an innovative exhibition programme — all key building blocks for the future of the Mauritshuis.

Emilie Gordenker, Director of the Mauritshuis, commented: ‘Alex Wynaendts provided invaluable leadership during an important period for us, and we are extremely grateful for his many years as Chairman and his involvement in the development of the museum. We are delighted that Lokke Moerel is taking over as our new Chair, and are confident that her track record as a board member, her enthusiasm for the Mauritshuis and her expertise in the digital world will be great assets for the further development of the museum.’

Lokke Moerel already has deep connections with the museum, having been Secretary of the Supervisory Board of the Mauritshuis since 4 June 2015. Lokke said: ‘The Mauritshuis is a magnificent museum and a global front-runner in art historical and technical research. The museum is well-entrenched within all cross-sections of Dutch society and always keen to experiment with digital and virtual innovations. I am very much looking forward to being even more involved in the future of this inspiring museum as its new Chair.’

Supervisory Board Mauritshuis

The structure of the Supervisory Board of the Mauritshuis will undergo changes in 2018. In addition to the appointment of Lokke Moerel as new Chair, Willem Bröcker (treasurer) and Quinten Dreesmann (member) will step down at the beginning of the new year. From 1 April 2018, the Supervisory Board will therefore consist of: Chair, Lokke Moerel; Treasurer, Rob Lelieveld (Managing partner at Ernst & Young), Ila Kasem (Partner at Van de Bunt Adviseurs), Titia Vellenga (Owner of Artara) and Manfred Sellink (Director of the Royal Museum of Fine Arts Antwerp). The role of secretary will be filled shortly.

Mauritshuis

The Mauritshuis is home to the best of Dutch Golden Age painting. The compact yet world-renowned collection is located in the heart of The Hague in The Netherlands, right next to the centre of government. Masterpieces such as Vermeer’s Girl with a Pearl Earring, The Anatomy Lesson of Dr. Nicolaes Tulp by Rembrandt, The Goldfinch by Fabritius and The Bull by Potter are on permanent display in the intimate rooms of this seventeenth-century monument.
